Metal Clay

Metal Clay is a remarkable material that consists of fine metal particles suspended in an organic binder with water. It shares the malleability of clay and can be fashioned into a variety of art forms, from jewelry to sculpture. Similar to other clays, Metal Clay can be molded, shaped, and carved before being fired by torch or kiln to burn off the organic binder and fuse the metal particles together.

The result of firing is a pure metal piece, albeit more porous than sheet metal, that can be finished using traditional metalsmithing methods. The piece can be soldered, burnished, hammered, plated, and more. Metal Clay comes in several varieties, including fine silver (999), sterling silver (925), bronze, copper, and even 22k GOLD! Different brands of clays are also available, with PMC being the first Metal Clay developed in the '90s by scientists at the Mitsubishi Materials Special Products division in Sanda, Japan.

I specialize in working with PMC3 (fine silver), PMC Gold, and COPPR Clay to create each pendant. Discover more about the process here
